Apple officially announced that they have sold over 2 million iPhone 5 in China during the first weekend, three days after the launch on 14 December 2012. “Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. Apple iPhone 5 was launched on 14 December 2012 in 33 countries including Malaysia.
Unlike long queues for iPhone 5 in Malaysia, China has been reported with “Unusual Turnout” for the iPhone 5 with only 4 to 5 people queuing in front of the Apple Store in Beijing. However, this is believed to be caused by unusual snowing and cold weather at the day of launch. On the other hand, China’s second largest wireless carrier, was reported to received more than 100,000 iPhone 5 online pre-orders on the first day of their opening for iPhone 5 registration.
